Today I accepted the roles of Mary Jensen and Veronica Starr in an upcoming comedy/detective podcast, Wiggles, PI. Hooray!

I saw this casting call posted and initially didn’t think I was right for the part because I don’t know much about detective stories or noir at all and I didn’t think I’d fit in. But then on a whim I checked out the creators’ proof of concept episode starring the detective, Wiggles, and I just really liked everything about it. The sound effects were well done, the ambient sounds were appropriate, and the writing and voice acting was great even though it’s not the kind of story I would typically choose to listen to myself for entertainment. (I really don’t care for mysteries, so detective stories never did it for me.)

I contacted the director to audition and since it was a while before I heard from him I thought maybe the role had been filled or my e-mail had fallen into a black hole, but it turned out his spam filter had been aggressive and he was ticked about it. Haha. We coordinated the lines he wanted to hear and after he shared them with his co-producer, they offered me the roles.

I did have to adjust my concept of Mary versus Veronica to make them more distinct (I didn’t want them having to do voice altering on me! agh!), so I had to redo some stuff, but I’m happy to get this role and I hope I do it justice. Also, I found out after the casting that their preference was for Veronica to have a transatlantic accent, which I was not willing to attempt. I guess they still liked me without it?

This part has large “leading lady” vibes and it’s a lot of lines in the script. Really looking forward to people getting to hear it.
