Today I accepted the role of Jenna in the school dramedy podcast Truth or Dare.
Kind of a weird one for me but I really liked the character’s description when I saw the audition for her. She was described as a goth musician with a hidden appreciation for cute things. I think the stereotype about goth characters is that they’d have low, expressionless voices, and my speaking voice is relatively high even when I use a lower register. So I was a little surprised I was considered right for the role.
That said, the selection was made very quickly after I auditioned, and there were only a few others who auditioned for the part, so it doesn’t seem the creator was taking a lot of time with his decisions. With voice acting, I guess after a quick decision you wonder a) was I just that perfect for the role? OR b) did they just need someone fast and I’d do?
There seem to be a lot of characters in this show and I don’t know how it all comes together. But Jenna seems fun and I’m looking forward to fine-tuning her voice and finding a way to make her interesting inside the monotone.
