I’ve been cast as Ichabod Crane’s younger sister, Lily, in a modernization of Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I found the audition lines really intriguing–some flavorful writing and some innovative ideas here. Lily seems multifaceted despite having a relatively small role in the overall show. She’s a youngest sibling–a new challenge for me, since I’m an eldest!–and she has this sort of Golden Child vibe that affects her relationship with her older brother Ichabod. I was given these notes:

Ability to convey emotion through restraint is key.

Scenes range from federal interviews to hushed family arguments—Lily never wants to be vulnerable, but can’t quite help it when the cracks show.

Dynamic with Ichabod should feel intimate, worn-in, and quietly heartbreaking.

The creator of the show went to film school and it shows in the way she writes with a cinematic eye–hoping it will translate well to an audio drama. She has provided character playlists to help us get to know the characters! What a cool idea.

I plan to play Lily with an edgy encouraging tone with a side dish of mean girl in the family interactions, and a solemn, defensive, but sincere vibe in the interviews. Looking forward to the outbursts and heavy emotions when I have to portray a sibling dealing with family interactions through family death and her brother’s increasingly terrifying connection to murder stories and the Headless Horseman. This will be very educational for me.
