Story: Confessions of a Sea Star
Role(s): Analise
Creator: Lynn

About the story: Analise is depressed and confesses some of her dark thoughts to her friend Junia.
Creator’s Character Description: Analise is a calm, motherly person. Her voice is soothing yet monotonous. She tends to be dismissive of her feelings, prioritizing others over herself. Analise struggles with smiling and showing happiness, despite being able to feel it she isn’t able to physically show it. When she tries to laugh or smile, it’s unnatural and awkward.
What do I like best about playing this character: The casting call I responded to said they were looking for someone who sounded like Rose Quartz from Steven Universe. I do not sound like Rose Quartz from Steven Universe. But I know that character very well and thought I could emulate her speech patterns to at least channel her energy. I guess I nailed that part of it because I was enthusiastically awarded the role. I enjoy tapping into the sadness and wannabe-love Rose had in the show I’m familiar with and trying to filter that into this character’s relationships. It’s fun to aim for soothing, calming, caring, but unable to express joy like everyone else. Also, she is a sea creature with a cute little alien boyfriend. How can you beat that?
What do I like least about playing this character: The comic I was brought in to voice has not materialized, and the other cute interactions I’ve recorded for little spots with the other characters to share with the other participants on Discord have just been little one-offs. I’m still having fun and really adore the other folks I’ve met, but this project is more like playing around with someone’s OCs rather than the structured projects I’m used to.
