About the story: “Truth or Dare” is a serialized comedic audio drama that delves into the complexities of modern college life through the eyes of Blake Appleseed. During a game of truth or dare, Blake seizes the chance to kiss his long-time crush, Christian, an act that propels him out of the closet and into a whirlwind of self-discovery. As Blake navigates the challenges of his new reality, he and his friends confront issues of identity, relationships, and societal expectations. Their journey is further complicated when a determined politician threatens to shut down their college, adding external pressure to their personal struggles.
Creator’s Character Description: Jenna is the grounded realist of the trio, balancing out Blake’s anxiety and Matthew’s flamboyance with her dry wit and monotone demeanor. A goth musician who thrives on melancholy, she embraces a dark, sardonic sense of humor. Despite her seemingly apathetic attitude and love for all things grim, Jenna secretly adores cute things and has a surprising sweet tooth, though she keeps this softer side well hidden.
What do I like best about playing this character: It’s a blast being the stoic, standoffish one. It might seem like a downer in the moment, but in context, monotone lines are freaking always funny. It also really sets up the possibility of giving the character some depth if she usually doesn’t reveal it. I like that she can be sarcastic and judgy but is demonstrably supportive of her friends. Also? I was cast in this role not knowing the character was meant to be asexual, and I am also asexual, so that was a fun coincidence.
What do I like least about playing this character: Given the initial description when I auditioned, I thought she would have a lot of screen time as part of the major trio the show focuses on, but I don’t actually get many lines per episode, so I feel like more of a side character.
